A decade after its original release, one of the lesser-known Gundam action RPGs is making a return - this time outside Japan. Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Battle Destiny Remastered has finally launched on Steam and Nintendo Switch (curr. $299 on Amazon), giving PC players a chance to experience a game that was once locked to the PlayStation Vita and available only in Japanese.
Originally developed by Artdink and released in 2012, the game never received a western localization - until now. The remaster comes courtesy of B.B. Studio and Bandai Namco, alongside updated visuals, UI adjustments, and full English support. Bandai has been trying to bring more Gundam games to modern platforms after the success of recent remasters and collections.
Set during the events of Mobile Suit Gundam Seed and Seed Destiny, the game lets you pick a side - Earth Alliance, ZAFT, or the Archangel faction - and fight your way through missions alongside key pilots from the series. The combat plays out in real-time, with third-person shooting, melee attacks, and customizable Mobile Suits.
New to the remaster are sharper character models, redrawn backgrounds, and a redesigned HUD that fits current display resolutions. The game also supports multiple control schemes and includes tweaks to the lock-on system, which should help it feel closer to modern Gundam console titles.
There are over 100 playable Mobile Suits in the game, and each can be fine-tuned based on your preference. It doesn't really matter if you lean towards speed, ranged weapons, or tanky defense builds, the customization system is deep enough to keep even veteran players engaged.
Steam requirements are relatively light - an Intel Core i3 with 4 GB RAM and a GTX 950 is enough for 1080p at 60fps on low settings. On the higher end, a 4 GB VRAM GPU like the GTX 1650 Super is recommended for stable performance on high.
At launch, the game is priced at $39.99 on Steam, and while there’s no introductory discount, regional pricing may vary. As of now, there’s no word on whether future patches or DLC are planned.
For Gundam fans who missed this entry the first time around, this remaster should be a welcome addition - and more accessible than ever. Steam Deck users will be glad to know that the game is supported on there as well.
